Joan Baez performs live at the BBC
June 9th, 2015 -
June 5, 1965 - Joan Baez played a special concert at the BBC Theatre in Shepherd's Bush, London.
The show took place less than a month after her estranged lover, Bob Dylan, had toured the country on the back of his Bringing It All Back Home album release. As famously documented in D.A. Pennebaker's documentary Don't Look Back, Baez joined Dylan on the road throughout the tour. Dylan had performed at the BBC five days earlier on June 1, 1965.
Baez's performance on the BBC special is testament to the influence Dylan had over her at the time. Not only does she play three Dylan numbers in the set, but her between song banter takes on particularly Dylan-esque affectations. See her introduction to "It Ain't Me, Babe" below, for example.
