'Sweet Little Sixteen' was originally penned and recorded by Chuck Berry in 1958, and it must be said that Jerry Lee does very little here to justify this cover version.

A cover needs to be either vastly different from the original, or a dramatic improvement on it to be justified. There's little value to be found in simply a straight up rendition, and that is what Jerry Lee delivers here, only, he is clearly not as comfortable with the vocal melody as Berry was. Lewis instead seems to languish in a dynamic lacking mid-range throughout this entire track, the result being a somewhat unenthusiastic sounding vocal delivery.

A signature Jerry Lee piano solo adds an element of excitement, but it's not enough to stop me asking – well, what's the point?
