Monster hit sparks FBI investigation

The Kingsmen

Louie Louie

Release Date: May 12th, 1963

Words by: Roland Ellis

It’s near impossible to understand what Kingsmen vocalist Jack Ely is saying during the verses of “Louie Louie”, and as far as the FBI were concerned, that meant whatever he was saying was really suspicious. So suss in fact that the FBI investigated the band for involvement in the interstate transportation of obscene materials all because of the messages that were apparently buried in the verses of “Louie Louie”.

The case was eventually dropped on account of being the biggest nothing in the history of nothings.

Moral of the story, don’t mumble your words or the FBI will be onto you like white on rice.
