Ray Davies' distorted guitar tone is maybe the Kinks' greatest legacy. That's a big call considering their catalogue of three-minute hits, but I'm sticking to it.
Think of early White Stripes records: 'Black Math', 'Fell in Love with a Girl' etc etc.. It's almost hard to believe that Jack White (and a horde of other garage bands over the years) didn't go into a recording studio with the slashed-amp sound of 'All Day and All of the Night' as a reference point.
