Aretha Franklin releases new album via Columbia Records

May 17, 1965 - Aretha Franklin's eighth studio album, Yeah!!!, was released via Columbia records.

Contrary to the album's 'live' sound, it was actually recorded in New York's Columbia Studios and produced by Clide Otis. The sound of a murmuring and applauding audience was all overdubbed to add atmosphere to the record.

The record sold poorly at the time of it's release, marking a continuation of the commercial difficulties that faced Franklin during her tenure at Columbia. It wasn't until later in the 60s, when she made the switch to Atlantic records, that Franklin's profile really began to soar.
