April 17th, 1969: Elvis Presley has released "In The Ghetto" the first single from his upcoming album From Elvis in Memphis, due out this summer. The track was written for Presley by Texan country singer, Mac Davis and was recorded in Memphis in January this year.
Listen to Presley's "In The Ghetto" below via Spotify.
In recent years Presley has largely taken a break from music to focus on his film career, taking a seven year break from performing. However he made a return to live music last June with his 1968 TV special -- Singer presents Elvis.
Watch a clip below of Elvis performing a medley of "Heartbreak Hotel", "Hound Dog" and "All Shook Up" last June in California.
It seems Elvis must have found his passion for performing again since last year's TV special as he has just announced a 57 show Las Vegas residency at the International Hotel starting July 31st. See dates and times below.
To this date Elvis hasn't performed outside of the USA despite offers from all over the world. Recently, The London Palladium reportedly offered Presley's manager, Tom Parker $28,000 for a one-week engagement. He responded, "That's fine for me, now how much can you get for Elvis?"
