My Name Is Barbra premiers on CBS

50 years ago today, a young Barbra Streisand appeared on a one hour TV special for CBS titled "My Name Is Barbra". The show was designed as a tie in with the simultaneous release of Streisand's fifth studio album of the same name.

Both the TV special and the record were hugely successful. The United Press International said, "She is so great it is shocking. She may well be the most supremely talented and complete popular artist that this country has ever produced."

Later in the year, "My Name Is Barbra" was awarded with 4 Emmy's, including "Outstanding Individual Achievements in Entertainment" for Streisand.
