Norman Greenbaum releases "Spirit In The Sky" from his debut album: Listen

Greenbaum's sings the gospel on his new single

American singer, Norman Greenbaum apparently wrote his debut single "Spirit In The Sky" after watching Porter Wagoner singing a gospel song on TV.

Greenbaum says: "I thought, 'Yeah, I could do that,' knowing nothing about gospel music, so I sat down and wrote my own gospel song. It came easy. I wrote the words in 15 minutes."

"Spirit In The Sky" was released this Christmas following the release of Greenbaum's debut album of the same name earlier this year.
