RIP B.B King

B.B. King, widely considered to be one of the greatest blues guitarists of all time, died last night. He was 89.

King had been receiving treatment for dehydration and exhaustion symptoms around the time of his death.

Riley B. King was born in Berclair, Mississippi on September 16, 1925. He made his first recording in 1949 as the “Beale Street Boy”, a name later shortened to B.B. His most successful period as a recording artist came during the 1950s-early 60s, culminating with the 1965 classic LP Live at the Regal—a title we will review on its 50th anniversary later in the year.

King toured tirelessly throughout his career. In 1987, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; and in 2006, King was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

RIP Mr B.B. King, a legend of the game.
