September 4th, 1969: Screamin' Jay Hawkins has released his third studio album ...What That Is!

Hawkins' biggest song to date is his 1956 track "I Put a Spell on You" which Creedence Clearwater Revival recorded on their self-titled debut album last year and performed at Woodstock last week.

Born in Cleveland, Screamin' Jay Hawkins was adopted by a tribe of Blackfoot Indians at 18 months old. He forged his birth certificate and joined the US Army at age 13 where he entered the boxing circuit. He went on to become the middleweight boxing champion of Alaska in 1949.
