April 30th, 1969: The Doors are back for the first time since Jim Morrison's arrest in Miami

The Doors have kept a low profile since their now infamous show on March 1st in Miami. Watch their performance and interview filmed last night in New York.

The events we write about at Gaslight Records happened in some form or another 50 years ago to the day. Roll along with us and imagine you are back in 1969.

April 30th, 1969: Last night The Doors made their first public appearance in two months, performing on the television show "Critique" in New York. The band played six songs; "Tell All The People", "Alabama Song", "Back Door Man", "Wishful Sinful", "Build Me A Woman", "The Soft Parade" and gave an interview with host Richard Goldstein.

Watch the full performance and interview below.

On March 1st, The Doors played at the Dinner Key Auditorium in Miami. Lead singer Jim Morrison had been drinking all day and, after two missed flights from Los Angeles and New Orleans, arrived to the venue late. By all accounts it was a wild scene. Morrison was blind drunk, there was a guy in the audience with a sheep, and reportedly 14,000 people had jammed into the swelteringly hot 7,000 seat venue. The Doors played only a handful of songs and, in between, 25-year-old Morrison ranted at the crowd. At one point during the hour long performance Morrison shouted into the microphone "You're all a bunch of fucking idiots!"

All of The Doors' subsequent concert dates have been cancelled and Morrison is now facing charges relating to the March 1st concert including "lewd and lascivious behavior in public by exposing his private parts and by simulating masturbation and oral copulation." The charges total a maximum sentence of three years and 150 days at Raiford State Penitentiary.

Listen to an audience recording of the Miami concert below.

The Doors are currently working on their fourth studio album The Soft Parade, due for release this summer.
