Willie Dixon originally penned 'you shook me' as simply an instrumental number, however, after some thought he decided to bring in the great Muddy Waters to lay down a vocal. What a decision that was.

You can hear the intricacy in the instrumentation here – particularly in the stride piano and lead guitar – that would have seen this tune stand up as an instrumental. But Muddy's one in a million tone takes it to another level. It brings soul to the table; the whiskey laden guts of highway 61; the palpable, raw energy of a Mississippi juke joint.
