I think Paul McCartney must have been listening intently to Roy Orbison's Crying when writing and recording 'PS I love you'-– he sounds as if channeling Roy's voice and phrasing here to some success. Even still, this tune is very much worthy of it's b-side classification, especially when you bear in mind that it's coming from The Beatles.

George Harrison's twangy guitar sound jostles for position, while Lennon and McCartney sound as if still working out exactly where each voice sits best in terms of vocal harmonization. It's a sweet track and the chorus melody shines through as a stamp of quality, but the fact that it comes from The Beatles persuades the ear to go searching for more depth than this tune delivers.
